Every product here was checked against its published ingredient list before it was judged on anything else. That is why several widely recommended products appear in our screened-out sections rather than our picks - and why the flagged list is the page the rest of the site is built on.
Why the exclusion comes first
Because it transfers. A list of recommended products helps you buy those products. A list of what to avoid works in a drugstore aisle, on something this site has never covered, and on whatever launches next year.
The reader we have in mind has usually been burned - by a product, by a flare, or by a listicle recommending something that stung. The most useful thing we can do first is tell you what is in the bottle.
Who writes it
Every article, review and guide on this site is written by Michael W., the hands-on owner behind The First Buyer.
That is the whole biography, deliberately. We hold no clinical credential, no dermatology qualification and no esthetician license, and we are not going to invent one. This site does not give medical advice and it is not a substitute for a clinician who can see your skin.
What we do instead
We compete on published, reproducible method rather than on claimed expertise. Every product card links to the ingredient list we read. The screen is written out in full at how we choose. Where evidence is genuinely mixed - niacinamide is the clearest case - the page says so instead of picking whichever side makes a cleaner recommendation.
